4.0 out of 5 starsIts a Dell XPS and it comes with great customer support.

The XPS 13 that arrived has an 8th gen i5 8250u processor with 8gb ram and 128gb SSD all in a 9360 model body. I got the specs as written/advertised. It's an XPS as one would expect it to be. It has the aluminum shell sandwiching some carbon fiber material on the keyboard area etc etc. yadda yadda, and it is fast as you can expect it to be.
So why the 4-star rating? As much as I wanted to consider myself a well-researched-guy-before-I-buy person, I made a mistake to just rely on the Dell XPS branding name and only read Amazon customer reviews regarding this product iteration and the previous 7th gen model. I figured that since its an XPS ( DELL's top of the line model), this should give the best computing experience possible at that price point. It is in fact compared to a macbook pro all the time. I did not read anything about the problem I encountered... which is a BIG deal especially for people who are not as technologically inclined as me. This model shuts down and restarts randomly.
The random shutdown/restart happens when some significant load is applied (photoshop multiple tabs, dev IDE, several multi tabs, and multitasking with documents etc). When you just surf with a couple of tabs open on chrome, it is fine (light load). So I thought I got a lemon item. This sucks. So then I googled this problem and lo and behold, this model 9360 (some not all) suffers this problem all along. There's a whole page about it in another popular forum post. So I'm not alone in this world. That's good, coz I did fork a pretty penny to get this laptop and I so much want to love this little thing (it's not cheap). I just need to know how they solved it.
So again, why the 4 star rating? I should be bashing this thing at this point. A brand new XPS 13 and it won't let you do work with real computer load. The answer is simple, DELL HAS GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I read on that forum page someone requested customer support and they guided him on downgrading the bios (which was supposedly the culprit). So I did the same, clicked on DELL SUPPORT ( its somewhere there on the taskbar in my case) and filed my complaint. After 2-3 hrs, I got an email apologizing etc etc... but the important part is, It had the solution with it. A download link with the proper bios. A fix. No more run around questions etc etc... Dell support knew about the problem and had a fix ready.
Now my brand new Dell XPS 13 9360 8th gen runs as smooth as butter. No more random restarts on heavy or light loads.
So why the long write-up? Is there a lesson to this story?
Yes, there is.
If / when you get an XPS 13 9360 that has this problem (random shutdown/restart ), Don't throw a hissy fit. FIND THAT DELL SUPPORT ICON AND ASK FOR SUPPORT. -

5.0 out of 5 starsIncredible deal!

I did not know you could get an 8th gen i5 XPS 13, with a freaking touch screen, for less than $900! I was in the looks for an ultrabook under $900 and was about to go with the ASUS UX330UA ($825 after tax). Got the ASUS, and it had significant backlight bleed, and I found myself not a fan of its matte finish on the display as it makes noticeably a bit grainy.
Then I found this thing for $879 (no taxes whatsoever), and man, the display and build quality on this thing are much better! You get a touch screen, and because of that the display isn't matte, but at the same time it's gladly not too reflective such as the Chromebook Pro that I tried before. A brand new touch screen XPS 13 with 8th gen i5 for less than $900 is unheard of and hella worth it. My unit also came with a fingerprint scanner, even though it wasn't mentioned in the specs and I wasn't expecting it!
I'm definitely returning the ASUS. It wasn't bad by any means, but this thing is simply great! -

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Laptop WITH Fingerprint Reader and 1920x1080 Touchscreen!

Love this laptop. You cannot get this combination, battery saving power of the 1920x1080 vs 4k display; with touch. Dell does not have the option for most users to customize. With the i5-8250u blazing dast processor, 8GB of ram, and 128gb ssd, All at a price for less than 900 is honestly a steal. I had the xps 2-1 and the core m unfortunately was just too slow. This never lags, I had a model with the 7200u, and it was still sufficient but this laptop blows it out of the water.
I was going to leave a 4-star review because the first unit did not turn on, I work in IT and tried numerous things like power cycle and reinserting the hard drive, and testing the battery. I did not leave a 4-star because of Issaquah Highlands Tech amazing customer service. They aplogized, and even sent me a discount on a case for the trouble,. If it weren't for this, I would have left a 4 star review.
Only thing I replaced was the ssd, the 128gb is pretty paltry and a tiny bit slower than PciE, I had a samsung 950 pro I used in an Intel NUC that is really fast. But the 128GB should be more than fine for a majority of the users. Even if you purchased this laptop, and buy a PCIE drive, you still have a couple hundred, and you get a fingerprint sensor too. A great bonus and dealbreaker.
Thanks Issaquah Highlands Tech!
